The science festival is a festival that showcases science and technology with the same freshness and flair that would be expected from an arts or music festival. Events can be varied, including lectures, exhibitions, workshops, live demonstrations of experiments, guided tours, and panel discussions. There may also be events linking science to the arts or history, such as plays, dramatised readings, and musical productions. The core content is that of science and technology, but the styles comes from the world of the arts.
In France, this festival was created in 1992 by « le ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche ». This festival was first named « Sciences en Fête » until 1997 and « Semaine de la science » between 1998 and 1999.
Our “Semaine de la science” took place on November, 30th 2016
Several workshop were proposed for the French and Norwegian pupils:
1st Workshop : EGG DROP
This workshop was run by the 6e.
The aim of this workshop was to drop an egg from 1m to 1.5m without it breaking when it hits the floor, by making something soft for it to land on.
2nd Workshop: LIQUIDS
Workshop ran by the 5e.
This class worked on color mixes and on the cornflour and water mix.
3rd Workshop: BOATS
Presented by the 6e.
In this workshop the students had to make a boat out of clay and make it float with marbles in it.
4th Workshop: HOW HEAT GETS TRANSFERRED
Workshop presented by the CM2.
Feel how heat gets transferred from the water to your hand and learn what material heats the butter up the fastest.
5th Workshop: BIG BUBBLE
This workshop was run by the 4e.
The aim of this workshop was to realize the biggest soap bubble!
6th Workshop: MICROSCOPE
Workshop ran by the 3e.
It was necessary to look in the microscope and to guess what we saw.

The aim of our activity was to make very big bubbles with soap, corn flower, glycerin and water, it worked very well.
The primary school and Norwegian school enjoyed a lot but sometimes the weather was too cold and they wanted to return in.

Retour d’expériences des sixièmes
L’atelier “bateaux” nous a permis de partager un moment autour de la notion de flotte/coule avec des camarades plus petits. Chacun des animateurs avait un rôle bien défini. Il y avait les traductrices, les donneurs de consignes et d’autres qui aidaient et accompagnaient.
Les solutions techniques envisagées par les élèves étaient de modeler une forme qui pouvait flotter et accueillir des billes. La difficulté majeure rencontrée était de ne pas trop mouiller la pâte à modeler sinon le bateau était trop lourd et coulait.
Quelques réussites sont à noter. Le maximum de billes transportées fut de 2.
Nous avons aimé animer cet atelier car cela s’est révélé être très amusant de partager de tels moments avec des camarades. Un point reste à améliorer : le fait de mixer encore plus les groupes afin que les Norvégiens et les Français échangent davantage.
L’atelier « lâché d’œufs » fut une réussite totale. Les élèves l’ont beaucoup apprécié. Le fait qu’on puisse casser des œufs était très rigolo… Nous avons tous eu des responsabilités très différentes (traducteur, guide, accompagnateur, testeur). Les solutions techniques qui ont le plus fonctionnées, étaient celles où il fallait enfermer l’œuf dans une sorte de boîte. Cette solution est intéressante car elle permet à la fois d’amortir et de protéger l’œuf.
Tous les élèves ont respecté les contraintes et ont posé beaucoup de questions. Nous espérons qu’une nouvelle journée sciences aura lieu prochainement.
