CO-LIVING SPACES/BETTER TOGETHER?

An English Creative Language Skills Project Using Traditional and New Tools for Learning

Created By Premier GT1 and GT2 – 2025

On Tuesday, February 12th, 2025, students of La Classe de Premier GT1 and GT2 presented their research-based project under the theme Espace Privé, Espace Public, with the topic: “Co-Living Spaces/Better Together?” The month-long skilling project aimed to introduce students to self-study methods and new digital tools, such as Minecraft, Canva, ArchiLab, and other game-based pedagogical tools. The goal was to help students develop their creative and innovative skills, deepen their understanding of community-based living, and, above all, build confidence in using new vocabulary and phrases in English while presenting coherently in front of their peers and the public.

During the presentation, student representatives Rebecca, Loïs, and Baboye explained to the Principal, Mr. Stephan Madrias, and the Director of Studies at EPC, Ms. Anne (who represented the Primary School as part of the ongoing collaborative orientation program), how excited they were to host them. They took the visitors through the practical and theoretical aspects of their project, discussing how they spent weeks researching, gathering vocabulary, improving their language skills, and learning to master the use of new digital tools to enhance their work.

In his address, Mr. Madrias encouraged the students to continue working together, not only to « catch their dreams »but also to build their communities and strengthen their vocabulary. He emphasized the importance of improving their language skills and practicing various learning techniques to help shape the future.

One group of students showcased their work on becoming architects, presenting a futuristic co-living space through architectural artwork. This piece of art stood as a testament to how, with proper guidance and supervision, students can unlock their full potential by working in teams and enhancing their skills in a more pedagogical manner.

ArchiLab: A Game-Based Pedagogical Tool

Another group of students worked with ArchiLab, an educational game-based tool, to explore the concept of living and working together. By assembling blocks and pieces, they created stimulating landscapes and living spaces, demonstrating their ideal co-living spaces. This tool helped them understand the value of sharing spaces not only with family members but also with others in their community. The students enjoyed working with ArchiLab, learning new language skills, and enhancing their creativity and innovation.

Minecraft: A Pedagogical Digital Tool, Dubbed “LHSCraft”

Other students used Minecraft, a digital learning tool, to enhance their skills. As part of the project, they created a short video showcasing their dream shared living spaces and ideal common community areas. They added an English soundtrack titled “Number One Girl” by Rosé, sending a message that they value togetherness over loneliness. Many of the students knew the lyrics to the song and even sang along, making the presentation even more lively and engaging.

Eco-Living Spaces

Additionally, some students envisioned co-living spaces in various parts of the world, including apartments in Libreville, shared housing in Korea, and co-living spaces in Germany—all under the umbrella of preserving nature and practicing eco-living. This part of the project was fun-filled and allowed students to learn new words and phrases, share their knowledge, and express their passions with their peers.

The main takeaway from this project was that meaningful conversations can be held in English while achieving much through collaboration. By embracing new technologies and tools, students not only improve their English language skills but also contribute to building vibrant, creative, and ecologically modern communities with shared spaces in a fun and fruitful way.
