International Day of Education 2025: Exploring « Artificial Intelligence and Education »Through Web Radio

On January 24, 2025, our high school community joined the world in celebrating the International
Day of Education under this year’s theme, “Artificial Intelligence and Education.” This global
observance highlights the vital role of education in promoting sustainable development, especially
as AI continues to reshape how we learn and engage with the world. At our school, the event was
marked by a unique and inspiring Web Radio activity that empowered students to explore AI’s role
in media, creativity, and humanitarian responses, while simultaneously developing their language,
communication, and digital literacy skills.

A New Way to Learn, Using New Media: Web Radio as a Tool for Skill Development

The activities began way back with an insightful orientation led by our Deputy School Principal,
Mrs. Tindjogo——during the English Language Class, she introduced the Première GT students to
the world of Web Radio—an innovative tool that blends technology with creativity. The students
were introduced to the dynamics of how Web Radio works, not only as a platform for broadcasting
but as an interactive, real-time educational tool that enhances both oral and written
communication skills. Mrs. Tindjogo emphasized how Web Radio can bridge gaps in media
literacy, offer a creative outlet, and develop technical skills that are highly relevant in today’s
digital world.

This hands-on activity was designed to show students how Web Radio can help them develop
critical thinking skills, improve their media literacy, and even better understand how AI influences
learning and communication processes. By participating in this dynamic activity, students also had
the opportunity to reflect on the power of education in their own lives and how it helps them
navigate the influence of technology in their communities.
Fostering Creativity and Reflecting on Global Issues
Our students took full advantage of the Web Radio platform by engaging in discussions on
important global issues, reflecting on the intersection of art, creativity, and social inclusion. As
part of their English Language classes, the Terminal GT class took the initiative to create and
produce a TV Talk Show titled “Art and Power.” This show focused on the powerful role of art
and creativity in shaping global responses to emergencies. The students discussed how both
Western leaders and those in developing countries use art and culture as tools for influence and
communication, particularly in times of crisis.

Through the “Art and Power” TV Talk Show, students explored various case studies, including:
•The reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, on 7th December 2024, , after the 2019 fire
•The devastating earthquakes in Vanuatu, in December 2024.
•Cyclone-related humanitarian responses in the French island of Mayotte, in
December 2024.
•The Nelson Mandela Legacy in South Africa and beyond.
By discussing these examples, the students delved into how art, creativity, and inclusivity are not
only powerful mediums for political and cultural expression but also essential components in
responding to natural disasters and emergencies. Their research and reflection highlighted how
creative initiatives can foster resilience, raise awareness, and unite people across the world in times
of need.

The theme of this year’s International Day of Education, “Artificial Intelligence and Education,”
also played a key role in the students’ exploration of media literacy and humanitarian response.
Through their Web Radio sessions, the students discussed how AI can help in the preparedness and
response to both natural and artificial disasters. For instance, AI technologies are increasingly being
used to predict the impact of natural disasters, optimize emergency responses, and improve the
distribution of aid.

The students’ Web Radio activity tied back to a significant quote from the Geneva Global Hub of
Education in Emergencies, which states:

« Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all,
countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that
is leaving millions of children, youth, and adults behind. »
This resonates with the idea that, in an AI-driven world, education—especially media and
information literacy—is crucial in preparing students to understand and respond to the technological
and humanitarian challenges that the world faces.

This activity demonstrated the immense potential of AI-powered tools, such as Web Radio,
in language development, creative expression, and humanitarian response. Through this platform,
students were able to expand their worldview, connect with global issues, and use their voices to
advocate for change, all while gaining hands-on experience in media production and digital literacy.

TV/Web Radio sessions, we invite you to visit the following Web Radio links. These recordings
offer a deeper insight into how our students are using Web Radio as a tool for language
development, media practice, and disaster preparedness in an AI-enhanced world.

The creation of a series of their TV Talk Show in lione with recognition of the International Day of
Education 2025 was a boost for our high school students learning experience who learned firsthand
about the integration of AI into education through Web Radio. This activity was not just about
mastering new technology but also about encouraging students to critically engage with the issues
shaping their world—whether through creative media, social inclusivity, or humanitarian action. By
combining education with creativity and AI-driven tools, we are helping our students develop the
skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape—-while working on their written
and oral language skills and development of cross-disciplinary competencies, supporting cultural
openness and energizing school life.
